Vintage ercol

Love this image by Photographer Nick Carter. Especially since we just bought 4 ercol chairs just like this one for our kitchen.

DIY

Here are some of the before and after pics of the Parker Knoll wingback I have been working on for ages. I stripped the chair and restained and French polished the feet then covered it using a fabulous red flocked velvet by Romo.

Material things...wood

We are starting furniture class again next week so looking for inspiration for our next project.

Came across this husband and wife team Russell Pinch and Oona Bannon who are specialist furniture designers with an amazing store called Pinch.

They have recently completed the interior and furniture design for the new head office of Neal's Yard Remedies.

They also have some fantastic lighting (and hardly surprising a beautiful website - go and check them out!)

Material things....wood

Studiomama is based in London and owned by the designer Nina Tolstrup. Love her beach house and her pallet chair lo (the instructions for which can be downloaded from her site for £10) - what a cool idea!

Now thats a cool idea!

Not only are these stackable outdoor Pandanus chairs beautiful they are made from a cellulose based plastic (using only water, plant fibres and natural additives) - the result is a strong durable material that is 100% biodegradable.

The Pandaus chair made Jessica Konawic a winner in the One Good Chair competition.

I so want one of these...

I love rocking chairs but this is the ultimate - a classic Eames' chair in rocker form.

Celebrating traditions......quilting

I love upholstery - but this is such a cool idea combining traditional upholstery with a modern form of quilting - now that is clever. The idea is that of Lisa Whatmough - who has set up shop in East London and has called it 'Squint' (thats the last thing I want to do - my eyes were popping out of my head!).

Each piece is meticulously made in England and traditionally upholstered, with tied springs and hand stitched seams. Aren't they gorgeous?

The chair theme continues.
I have finally completed my first chair and I am rather proud of how he turned out. Let me know what you think...
